doc. Ing. Cristina Procházková Ilinitchi, Ph.D.
Head of the Department of International Economic Relations
Cristina Procházková Ilinitchi has been an associate professor in International Economic Relations since 2024. She defended her habilitation thesis titled Remittances in a Dynamic Global Landscape: Methodologies, Implications, and Emerging Challenges. Since 2025, she has served as Head of the Department of International Economic Relations. At the Department, she teaches courses International Economics, the EU Internal Market, and Migration and Remittances in a Dynamic Global Environment. She has contributed to projects funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, and the International Visegrad Fund. From 2023 to 2025, she was the principal researcher of the GA CR project Digitalisation of the Public Sector: Impacts on the Growth and Innovation of Domestic IT Sectors. From 2024 to 2026, she participated in the NAWA project titled Academic Partnership for the Study of the Middle East and North Africa in Central and Eastern Europe.

Ing. Kareem I. Abdallah
Kareem Abdallah has been an assistant professor at the Department of International Economic Relations since 2023. His doctoral research mainly focuses on quantifying the natural rate of interest and its long-run determinants. He teaches seminars in the department on International Economics I, International Economics II, Bitcoin and Blockchain, and Digital Assets and Blockchain.
Mgr. Jarolím Antal, Ph.D.
Jarolím Antal has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2014. He is the Director of the Centre for European Studies, too. He has participated in research projects funded by the TA ČR and other projects focusing on themes related to the Czech Republic’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2021–2023. He teaches in the programme Sustainable Transformation and European Competitiveness and in the course World Economy. He has completed a number of professional and teaching stays abroad, e.g. in Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. His research has been published in the prestigious European studies journal Journal of Common Market Studies. He also comments on European affairs and policies in the media.
Ing. Josef Bič, Ph.D.
Josef Bič is an assistant professor and deputy head of the Department. In 2010, he received his doctorate in European Studies, defending his dissertation on competitiveness as the basis for economic governance in the European Union. In his teaching and research, he focuses on international economic relations, EU economic policies, and the economic development of EU Member States – particularly in the context of structural change and the green transition. He actively supports student initiatives (European Horizons, EU Careers). He has contributed to projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the International Visegrad Fund.
Ing. Ilya Bolotov, MBA, Ph.D.
Ilya Bolotov is an assistant professor at the Department since 2021; prior to that, he worked at the Department of International Business. In 2010, he obtained an MBA degree from IFTG/iaelyon School of Management (France), and in 2012 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic The Global Financial Crisis and Its Impacts on the Economy of the Russian Federation. Since 2010, he has been teaching courses focused on international trade. He has also lectured at universities in Austria and Slovakia. His research concentrates on international trade and investment, with a particular emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. He was a member of the research team of the International Visegrad Fund project Mutual Relations between the Republic of Korea and V4 Countries in Trade and Investment in 2014–2015.
Ing. Tereza De Castro, Ph.D.
Tereza De Castro has been a member of the Department since 2012. In 2014, she defended her PhD dissertation entitled International Trade in Goods as a Means of Advancing the Influence of the BRICS in the World Economy. She teaches the courses International Trade, Investment and Innovation; Economic Potential of the MENA Region; Institutional Economics for Development; and Geography of International Relations. She has teaching experience at partner universities abroad within the Erasmus+ and has completed research stays in the United States and China. She has contributed to projects funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, and the International Visegrad Fund. In 2024–2026, she participated in the international NAWA project Academic Partnership for the Study of the Middle East and North Africa in Central and Eastern Europe.
doc. Ing. Pavel Hnát, Ph.D.
Pavel Hnát is an associate professor at the Department since 2022, has served as Vice-Rector for Education and Quality Management at the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE), as well as Vice-Chair of its Internal Evaluation Board. He is a member of several scientific councils. Between 2012 and 2022, he served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of International Relations for educational affairs. He teaches, for example, World Economy and International Economic Relations. His specialization includes economic growth, comparative regionalism, and the position of the European Union in the global economy. He has taught at universities in Austria and the United States and has undertaken a research stay in China. He is the programme guarantor of the bachelor’s programme International Trade and the follow-up master’s programme European Economic Integration. He has participated in several projects funded by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the International Visegrad Fund, etc.
Mgr. Ing. Jakub Jedlinský, Ph.D.
Jakub Jedlinský has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2016. He defended his PhD dissertation entitled An Alternative Perspective on the EU Monetary System: An Examination Using Dynamic Stock–Flow Consistent (SFC) Models. He leads seminar classes for International Economics II and lectures specialised courses focused on cryptocurrencies (e.g., Cryptocurrencies and Other Alternative Monetary Solutions in Worldwide Practice; Digital Assets and Blockchain). He engages with cryptocurrencies both in his research and, in particular, in professional practice. He also teaches within the FIRs executive education programme and delivers cryptocurrency courses for the professional public. He has completed expert examinations in the valuation of cryptocurrencies and tokens and is, or has been, a member of expert blockchain working groups (e.g., at the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic).
doc. Ing. Martina Jiránková, Ph.D.
Dean of the Faculty of International Relations
Martina Jiránková was the Head of the Department in 2021–2024 (and was Head of the Department of World Economy in 2013–2021). Since 2024, she has been the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations. Between 2014 and 2016, she served as Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies. She is a member of several scientific councils. She teaches International Economics I and has been engaged with research on the changing role of nation-states in the era of globalisation. She previously served as Director of the Centre for European Studies. She has participated in projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (Targeting Investment Incentives in the Czech Republic with Regard to the Expected Impacts of Technological Change; Declining Oil Prices: Research on the Impacts on Producer States in the EU Neighbourhood).
doc. Vincenzo Merella, Ph.D., MSc
Vincenzo Merella has been a member of the Department since 2020 and has been at the Faculty of International Relations since 2018 as head of the International Research Center. In his scientific and publishing activities, he deals with the issue of innovation and quality in international trade and the topic of economic growth. He studied economics at the University of Cagliari and University College London. He worked at City University London, the University of St. Gallen, and the University of Cagliari. He published the scientific articles in the Journal of International Economics and the Journal of the European Economic Association. In the past, he was the investigator of two scientific projects in Italy and one in the UK. Since 2019, he has been the investigator of the GAČR scientific project Quality of imports depending on the economic level of the importing country.
Smaranda Pantea, Ph.D.
Smaranda Pantea has been a research fellow and assistant professor in the Department since 2019. She used to work as an economist at the Romanian Ministry of Public Finance, where she contributed to evaluating fiscal policies, and at the European Commission. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham. Her research centres on counterfactual evaluations of public policies, particularly tax exemptions, subsidies, vouchers, and public procurement. Her work has been published in European Economic Review, Small Business Economics, Economic Systems, Information Economics and Policy, and Venture Capital. At the Department, she teaches courses related to international economics. In 2023–2025, she served as the principal investigator of the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) project Digitalisation of the Public Sector: Effects on the Growth and Innovation of Domestic IT Sectors.
Ing. Dominik Proch, Ph.D.
Dominik Proch has been an assistant professor of the Department since 2022. Since 2024 he has been the Vice Dean for Development of the Faculty of International Relations. His research focuses on the topic of state-market interactions in the process of economic development and macroeconomic evolution, especially in Asian economies. His PhD thesis, which he defended in 2023, examines the role of the state in the process of structural transformation of the Indian and Chinese economic systems. He teaches seminars in World Economics, Regional Markets in global Perspective, and International Economics.
Ing. Ondřej Sankot, Ph.D.
Ondřej Sankot has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2017. Since 2023 he has been the Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of International Relations. In 2019, he defended his dissertation on EU economic policy priorities in the process of integrating European socio-economic models. At the Department, he leads seminars in the courses World Economy and International Economics. He has participated in several projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the International Visegrad Fund, etc.
Ing. Jiří Sejkora, Ph.D.
Jiří Sejkora has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2015. In 2017, he defended his dissertation on Determinants of Industrialization in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Possibilities for its Development. At the Department, he focuses mainly on secondary specialization Development studies, in which he guarantees and teaches specialized courses in the field of development economics. It focuses on problems in the areas of development, inequalities, poverty, human capital, environmental issues, or institutions in the developing world.
Mgr. Kateryna Shymanska, Ph.D.
Kateryna Shymanska has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2022. She teaches the courses International Trade; Trade Policies in Central European Countries; and International Trade, Investment and Innovation. Her research focuses on international trade and trade policy, with particular emphasis on geographical indications, sustainability in international trade, and their impacts on regional development; she also has research experience in the field of international migration. She has participated in projects supported by the International Visegrad Fund and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. Prior to joining the Department, she worked for 16 years at Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University. In 2021–2023, she also served as an expert on a project for the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine, Strengthening Capacities in External Audit in Line with International Standards in Ukraine.
doc. Ing. Zuzana Stuchlíková, Ph.D.
Zuzana Stuchlíková has been working at the Department since 2004. Since 2016, she has been the Director of the Centre for Asian Studies. She teaches Regional Markets in a Global Perspective and courses within the minor specialisations Asian Studies and Economic Diplomacy. In 2008, she defended a PhD dissertation focused on the sources of growth in the contemporary Japanese economy. She obtained her habilitation in 2015. She has completed research and teaching stays in Japan and China. In addition to Japanese and Chinese economies, she has long been engaged with selected global trends (population ageing, income inequalities, trends in international trade, etc.). She has participated in several research projects funded by TA ČR and GA ČR, the International Visegrad Fund, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and others.
prof. Ing. Stanislav Šaroch, Ph.D.
Stanislav Šaroch has been affiliated with the PUEB since 1993 as an Associate Professor and was appointed full Professor in 2018. He specialises in economic policy, the economics of European integration, and the role of the automotive industry in the world economy. He participated in research projects funded by VŠE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Czech Science Foundation, addressing topics such as Strategy of Czech Economic Policy in Response to the Current EU Enlargement—When Should the Czech Currency Be Replaced by the Euro?, Asset Price Developments: The Case of the Czech Republic, Economic Theory and the Czech Economy, Winners and Losers of European Monetary Integration. He has completed numerous research stays abroad, in Germany and Austria. At the Department, he lectures International Economics II and International Economics for Doctoral Studies. Professor Šaroch is the academic guarantor of the minor specialisation Development Studies.
Ing. Patrik Šváb
Patrik Šváb has been an assistant professor at the Department since 2024. His doctoral research focuses on macroeconomic modelling of monetary unions. In addition to macroeconomic theory, he also works on international trade topics such as international sanctions and gravity models of trade. He gained experience in trade topics while studying and working at the Institute for World Economics in Kiel, Germany. He teaches the International Economics I and II, and Regional Markets in the Global Economy seminars and also focuses on the development of working with data in undergraduate and graduate courses.
doc. Mgr. Jana Vlčková, Ph.D.
Jana Vlčková has been a member of the Department since 2012. In 2019, she was appointed associate professor in the field of International Economic Relations. She teaches e.g. Economic Geography and the EU’s Energy Transition; Geography of International Relations; Geography of the World Economy; and The EU Internal Market and Global/Regional Value Chains. She is the academic guarantor of the master’s degree programme Sustainable Transformation and European Competitiveness. Her research focuses on innovation, global value chains, and multinational corporations. She has been a leader and member of research teams on a number of projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR), the International Visegrad Fund and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. Her articles have been published in leading scholarly journals, including The Journal of Technology Transfer and Competition & Change.
doc. PaedDr. Milan Vošta, Ph.D.
Milan Vošta has been a member of the Department since 1994 and completed his habilitation in 2007. He teaches the courses Geography of the World Economy, Geography of International Relations, and Economic Potential of the Post-Soviet Region. His research interests include changes in the spatial distribution of the world economy and regional disparities, with a particular emphasis on energy-related issues – energy relations, energy security, and the geopolitics of resources. He has participated in a number of research project funded by the Czech Science Foundation, the Visegrad Fund, and the EEA and Norway Grants. He serves on scientific councils at universities in the Czech Republic and abroad and is a member of editorial boards of journals such as Social and Humanities Sciences Revue, Political Sciences, and Studia Politicae Universitatis Silesiensis.
doc. Ayaz Zeynalov, M.A., Ph.D.
Ayaz Zeynalov has been a member of the Department since 2021. He completed his habilitation in 2023 with a thesis entitled Essays on Resource-Led Growth and Institutional Factors in Developing Countries. Prior to joining KMEV, he worked until 2021 at the Jan Masaryk Centre for International Studies (now the Department of International Studies and Diplomacy). He earned his master’s degrees at Qafqaz University in Baku and at CERGE-EI. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. In 2020, he was a member of the research team of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR) project Declining Oil Prices: Research on the Impacts on Producer States in the EU Neighbourhood.
