Doc. Ing. Martina Jiránková, Ph.D. h

has been the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations since its establishment in January 2021 (she has been the Head of the Department of World Economics since September 2013). She has been the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations since 2024. She is a member of several scientific boards. Between 2014 and 2016, she was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of International Relations for Research and Doctoral Studies. She has been working at the department since 2007 and in 2013 she was appointed associate professor in the field of World Economy. She lectures and practices international economics and has long dealt with the changing role of nation-states in the era of globalization (she was the investigator of a postdoctoral grant focused on this issue). She was director of the Centre for European Studies of the University of Economics in Prague. In 2019 and 2020, she was a member of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR) research project called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic in view of the anticipated impacts of technological changes. In 2020, she was a member of the TAČR project research team entitled Oil Price Drop: Research on the impact on producer states in the EU’s neighborhood.

Stanislav Šaroch has been an assistant professor and later associate professor at the University of Economics since 1993, and in 2018 he was appointed professor in the field of International Economic Relations. He specializes in economic policy, the economics of European integration, and, within international economics, the importance of the world economy’s automotive industry. He participated in solving the research projects of the University of Economics, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the topic: Strategy of Czech economic policy for the eastern enlargement of the European Union – when to replace the Czech currency with the euro, Development of asset prices – case of the Czech Republic, Economic Theory and Czech Economy, Winners and losers of European monetary integration sponsored by Czech Science Foundation (1996 -1998) and others. He has completed several foreign internships: University of Innsbruck (1996), Fachhoschule Aachen (1996, 1997, 1998), University Halle – Wittenberg (1998), Institute of World Economy in Kiel (2016, 2017, 2018). He lectures in the Department of International Economics II and International Economics for doctoral studies. Professor Šaroch is the guarantor of the minor specialization in Development Studies.

Doc. PaedDr. Milan Vošta, Ph.D. has been an associate professor at the FIR since 1994. He lectures at the Department of Geography of the World Economy and Geography of International Relations. He has long dealt with regional issues in the European Union area, focusing on the regional development of the new EU Member States under the conditions of the single internal market and the areas of cross-border cooperation within the Euroregions. He has completed several foreign internships and research stays on EU regional issues (University of Antwerp, Würtschafts Universität Wien, Universitat of Bari, and MGIMO University Moscow).

doc. Ing. Ludmila Štěrbová, CSc.

Doc. Ing. Ludmila Štěrbová, CSc. has been an associate professor in the Department of International Economic Relations since January 2021 and has worked at the Department of International Trade since 2006. Between 2018 and 2022, she acted as vice-rector for strategy at the University of Economics in Prague. From 2012 to 2016 she was vice-dean for international relations and PR of the Faculty of International Affairs of the University of Economics and since 2007 she has been director of the Master’s program international business – Central European Business Realities. Before returning to the Prague University of Economics and Business, she served as the first secretary of the Ambassador to the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations and the WTO in Geneva or as head of the Department of International Economic Organizations of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Doc. Štěrbová specializes in international trade, the World Trade Organization, regional and bilateral preferential trade agreements, the EU’s common trade policy, and trade aspects of intellectual property rights. He regularly teaches abroad, e.g. at Fachhochschule Mainz, IAE Lyon 3, Management Center Innsbruck, or University of Northern Colorado.

Doc. Ing. Pavel Hnát, Ph.D. has been an Associate Professor at the Department of International Economic Relations and since 2022, he is the Vice-Rector for Education and Quality Management of the University of Economics in Prague and Vice-Chairman of its Internal Evaluation Board. He is a member of several scientific boards. Between 2012 and 2022 he was Vice Dean for Teaching at the Faculty of International Relations. He teaches courses World Economy, Regionalism in the World Economy, and International Economic Relations. He was appointed associate professor in 2014 in the field of International Trade. In 2009, he received a doctorate in European Studies, defending his dissertation on the global political economy of new regionalism and the European Union; in 2009 he received the Award for the best doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of International Relations of the University of Economics. He specializes in new regionalism, comparative regionalism, and the European Union’s position in the global economy. In 2007 he completed a one-month study stay at Renmin University of China in Beijing. He also works as a member of the Centre for European Studies and is a member of the editorial staff of the magazine Contemporary Europe. Doc. Hnát is the guarantor of the Master’s program European Economic Integration. In 2019 and 2020 he was the principal investigator of the TA ČR project called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes. Between  2020 and 2022, he was a member of three TAČR project research teams focused on the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Doc. Ing. Zuzana Stuchlíková, Ph.D. has been working at the Faculty of International Relations of the Prague University of Economics and Business since 2004. She is currently an associate professor in the Department of International Economic Relations. He guarantees and teaches the Master’s course Regional Markets in Global Perspective and courses within the framework of secondary specialization Chinese studies (Chinese Economics, seminars on Economic Geography of China), Economic Diplomacy (Economic Analysis of Regions and Trends of the World Economy). In 2008, she received her doctorate in International Economic Relations, defending her dissertation on the sources of growth of japan’s current economy. In addition to the Japanese and Chinese economies, it has long been involved in selected trends in international economic relations (regional economic integration, technological development, population aging). Until November 2009, she worked at the Centre for European Studies. Since 2016 she has been director of the Centre for Asian Studies at the National Institute of Economic And Social Studies. She has completed study and teaching stays in Japan and China. In 2019 and 2020, she was a member of the TA ČR project research team called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes.

Doc. Mgr. Jana Vlčková, Ph.D. has been a member of the department since 2012. In 2019 she was appointed associate professor in the field of International Economic Relations. In 2014, she defended her dissertation on Global Changes in Technology Deployment and Innovation with a focus on the EU. At the Department, she lectures on the Geography of the World Economy in English, Economic Geography of China, and Economic Geography of Europe leads seminars in the subject World Economy and Regional Markets from a global perspective. In 2019 and 2020, she was a member of the TAČR project research team called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes and implements a number of contractual research projects on the topic of innovation and global value chains.

doc. Vincenzo Merella, Ph.D., MSc

doc. Vincenzo Merella, Ph.D., MSc

Doc. Vincenzo Merella, Ph.D., MSc has been a member of the department since 2020 and has been at the Faculty of International Relations since 2018 as head of the International Research Center. In his scientific and publishing activities, he deals with the issue of innovation and quality in international trade and the topic of economic growth. He defended his habilitation work at the FMV on the topic of Economic Models of Quality Innovation. He studied economics at the University of Cagliari and University College London. He worked at City University London, the University of St. Gallen, and the University of Cagliari. He published the best scientific articles in the Journal of International Economics (Q1) and the Journal of the European Economic Association (Q1). In the past, he was the investigator of two scientific projects in Italy and one in the UK. Since 2019, he has been the investigator of the GAČR scientific project Quality of imports depending on the economic level of the importing country.

Ayaz Zeynalov, M.A., Ph.D., has been an associate professor in Internation Economic Relations since 2023. He defended his habilitation thesis on Essays on Resource-Led Growth and Institutional Factors in Developing Countries. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Economic Relations in January 2021,is an assistant professor in the Department of International Economic Relations since January 2021, previously worked at the Jan Masaryk Centre for International Studies. He received his master’s degree from Qafqaz University in Baku and CERGE-EI. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Institute of Economic Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University. In 2020, he was a member of the TAČR project research team entitled Oil Price Drop: Research on the impact on producer states in the EU’s neighborhood.

Ing. Cristina Procházková Ilinitchi, Ph.D. has been an associate professor in International Economic Relations since 2024. She defended her habilitation thesis on Remittances in a Dynamic Gobal Landscape: Methodologies, Implications, and Emerging Challenges. She has been an assistant professor in the department since 2014. At the Department, she leads seminars in the subject of International Economics and European Economic Integration. In 2019 and 2020, she was a member of the TAČR project research team called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes.

Ing. Josef Bič, Ph.D.

Ing. Josef Bič, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Department of International Economic Relations and deputy head of the Department of International Economic Relations. In 2010, he received his doctorate in European Studies, defending his dissertation on Competitiveness as the basis for economic governance in the European Union. He lectures in the EU Economic and Economic Policy and EU Policy courses. He also leads seminars on regional markets from a global perspective. Its publication focuses on the current challenges of European integration and EU Member States, with an emphasis on the economic and political, and external economic aspects of European integration. In 2017, he was a professional supervisor at the creation of the European Horizons student association at the FMV Vše. At the department, he is mainly engaged in doctoral studies. In 2019 and 2020 he was a member of the research team of the TAČR project called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes. In 2020, he was a member of another TAČR project research team entitled Setting up a coordination mechanism within the Presidency of the Council of the EU: preparation and progress from the perspective of selected Member States, lessons learned and recommendations for CZ PRES 2022.

Ing. Ilya Bolotov, MBA, Ph.D.

Ing. Ilya Bolotov, MBA, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Department of International Economic Relations which he joined in January 2021, having worked for the Department of International Trade before (since 2012). He received his MBA degree at the Institut Franco-Tchèque de Gestion (VŠE) and IAE Lyon 3 (France) in 2009 and his Ph.D. degree in international economic relations in 2012, after successfully defending his dissertation on the Great Recession and its impact on the Russian economy, for which he received the Award for the best Ph.D. dissertation at the Faculty of International Relations in 2013. In his research, he focuses on international trade, foreign direct investment, business cycle, and economies of the new EU New Member States and of the Eurasian Economic Union. In 2014 he gave lectures at Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Austria). As a member of a research team, he participated in the project “Mutual Relations between the Republic of Korea and V4 Countries in trade and investment,  financed by the International Visegrad Fund, in 2014–2015. In 2014, he as the head of an author collective received the University president’s award for a prestigious book publication “The Economic Development of the EU New Member States: The impact of the crisis and the role of the Single European Currency”.

Ing. Tereza De Castro, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor in the department since 2012. At the Department, he leads seminars in the subject of International Economics and Regional Markets from a global perspective. He also specializes in development issues, in which he also lectures (Introduction to the Developing Economy, Institutional Economics for Development). In 2019 and 2020, she was a member of the TA ČR project research team called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes.

Mgr. Jarolím Antal, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor in the department since 2014. At the Department, he lectures on European economic integration and leads seminars in the subject World Economy. He is director of the Centre for European Studies and editor-in-chief of Contemporary Europe magazine. In 2019 and 2020 he was a member of the research team of the TA CR project called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes. In 2020, he was a member of the TAČR project research team entitled Setting up a coordination mechanism within the Presidency of the Council of the EU: preparation and progress from the perspective of selected Member States, lessons learned, and recommendations for CZ PRES 2022. As part of the minor specialization Economic Diplomacy, he co-organizes the cycle of Export Evenings.

Ing. Jiří Sejkora, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor in the department since 2015. In 2017, he defended his dissertation on Determinants of Industrialization in sub-Saharan Africa and the possibilities for their development at the Faculty of International Relations. At the Department, he focuses mainly on secondary specialization Development studies, in which he guarantees and teaches specialized courses in the field of development economics. It focuses on problems in the areas of development, inequalities, poverty, human capital, environmental issues, or institutions in the developing world.

Ing. Jakub Jedlinský, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor in the department since 2016. He defended his dissertation on an alternative view of the EU monetary system: exploring using dynamic SFC models. At the Department, he leads seminars of International Economics 2 and lectures specialized courses focused on cryptocurrencies.

Ing. Ondřej Sankot, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor in the department since 2017. Since 2023 he has been the Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of International Relations. In 2019, he defended his dissertation on EU economic policy priorities in the process of integrating European socio-economic models at the Faculty of International Relations. At the Department, he leads seminars in the World Economy and International Economics. In 2019 and 2020 he was a member of the research team of the TA ČR project called Targeting Investment Support in the Czech Republic with regard to the anticipated impacts of technological changes.

Smaranda Pantea, Ph.D.

Smaranda Pantea, Ph.D. is a research fellow and assistant professor in the department since 2019. She received her doctorate from the University of Nottingham in the UK; the theme of the dissertation was technology transfer, productivity, and employment. She obtained a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Porto, Portugal. She previously worked at the Ministry of Finance of Romania and the European Commission (JRC and DG GROW). She teaches courses in International Economics and her research focuses on technological change and public policies that support it.

Ing. Dominik Proch, Ph.D.

Ing. Dominik Proch, Ph.D.

Ing. Dominik Proch, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor of the Department since 2022. Since 2024 he has been the Vice Dean for Development of the Faculty of International Relations. His research focuses on the topic of state-market interactions in the process of economic development and macroeconomic evolution, especially in Asian economies. His PhD thesis, which he defended in 2023, examines the role of the state in the process of structural transformation of the Indian and Chinese economic systems. He teaches seminars in World Economics and International Economics in the department.

Mgr. Kateryna Shymanska, Ph.D. has been an assistant professor at the department since 2022. She teaches seminars in the subject of International Trade, Investment and Innovation. She has a long-standing interest in international migration and its connection with geo-economic transformations. Current research focuses on international trade issues in the context of the implementation of fair trade practices and the development of local economies.

Ing. Kareem I. Abdallah

Ing. Kareem I. Abdallah has been an assistant professor in the department since 2023. His doctoral research mainly focuses on quantifying the natural rate of interest and its long-run determinants. He teaches seminars in the department on International Economics I, International Economics II, Bitcoin and Blockchain, and Digital Assets and Blockchain.

Ing. Patrik Šváb

Ing. Patrik Šváb

Ing. Patrik Šváb has been an assistant professor at the department since 2024. His doctoral research focuses on macroeconomic modelling of monetary unions. In addition to macroeconomic theory, he also works on international trade topics such as international sanctions and gravity models of trade. He gained experience in trade topics while studying and working at the Institute for World Economics in Kiel, Germany. He teaches the International Economics I and II seminars in the department and also focuses on the development of working with data in undergraduate and graduate courses.
